“Experience”

… comprises three works of art of 50 x 50 cm each and means “experience” in German. It is a work that was created contrary to Witzig’s attitude of never painting according to the ideas of others. It was suggested to paint a discreet picture, both in the background and in terms of the motif. It should be a picture that doesn’t look so colorful and chaotic. This was a great challenge for Witzig, as she paints purely intuitively and all colours and elements are instinctively chosen and applied during the painting process. Nevertheless, she rose to the challenge by focusing on the colours white, black and red. The background was not the big challenge for Witzig, she has already shown something similar in the works “Chaos & Symmetry I” and “Atmosphere”, but in these works the geometric elements were very colorful and the overall impression of these works of art was chaotic at first glance and only reassuring at second glance. The biggest challenge for Witzig was to stick to the same color tones for all elements as for the background. How is she supposed to manage to create a dynamic without her beloved bright bright colors that offers enough room for interpretation and emotions? By relying on her experience. Experiences she has had during her previous intuitive painting processes. So she trusts that she can confidently let her feelings run free and that her feeling will bring out exactly what is needed for this picture. In this way, Witzig gives the picture exactly what it wants. A discreet background, which nevertheless leaves enough room for emotions due to the shading and elements in a darker red as well as white and black. Only very discreet, small, brightly shining sunny yellow elements are visible. Perhaps it is Witzig’s small provocative artistic pinprick, to counter the uniform gray at least a little something. In the middle part of the trilogy, which was incidentally worked on first, the elements have been connected by straight lines of different thicknesses. After drawing the last line, it became clear to Witzig that the two outer parts should not be crossed with straight lines, but should be given round shapes. A nice conclusion, as Witzig thinks, because in her opinion the trilogy has become completely round and coherent and, from her point of view, gives her picture a strong expression even without color. Witzig’s clear answer to the idea of others painting a discreet picture is “experience”. It can even compensate for the renunciation of color, even if it will probably not make peace with painting in three shades.
